Getting Started

The Archives

Our archive has more than 75,000 pages of documents, microfilms, audio and video recordings, and photographs. We encourage visitors to arrange a date and time to meet with our archive staff so they can be prepared for you. A research agreement must
be signed.

Online Archives

Our specialized online database tools have data previously extracted from source material for easier online research. They include:

Raylene Fairfax Research This database is based on Ms. Fairfax’s 1993 research thesis, and includes genealogical information for African Nova Scotians in Cumberland County.
Ship Builders of Cumberland County This database includes information about ship names, builders and investors. You can also find out what happened.
School Register Current to 1931, this database includes names, ages, calculated birthdates, parents/guardians, and addresses.

Research Tokens:  $25 per hour of access. Tokens can be redeemed at the museum for an hour of individualized assistance.
